moderador,

Days of Bioart'06 is a series of presentations,
workshops, debates and space for
consultation about biological and living
art with some of the pioneer artists, curators and critics in the field.
The event
offers a unique opportunity to engage
with artistic activities that investigate various aspects of life sciences from a wide
range of perspectives.
Presentations:
Andy Gracie (hostprods) investigates the use of forms
of Artificial Intelligence to build spontaneous communications between machine
and living systems (insects, plants, cells...).
Ionat Zurr y Oron Catts, from SymbioticA,
The Art & Science Collaborative Research Laboratory, and founders of
the Tissue Culture & Art Project, an artistic research project using tissue engineering technologies.
José Eugenio Marchesi, artist, creator of the project Ganadería Científica (Scientific Breeding), a range of portraits of the Fruit Fly (Drosophila melanogaster), the Mouse (Mus musculus), the Toad (Xaenopus laevis), the worm (Caenorhabditis elegans) and the Zebra Fish (Brachridario rerio).
Jens Hauser, curator of L'Art Biotech, the first show of bioart
in Nantes in 2003.
Round table:
To conclude Days of Bioart'06 a round table will take place
with Jens Hauser,
SymbioticA Tissue Engineering and Art Workshop:
11.30 h. Auditorium Centre d'Art Santa Mònica
Mónica
Bello and Ulla Taipale.
Presentation of the project
CAPSULA and opening of Days of Bioart'06.
12.30 h. Auditorium Centre d'Art Santa Mònica
Jens
Hauser. Bioart, taxonomy of an etimologic monster
The curator of «L'Art Biotech»,
the first exhibition of bioart, which took place in Nantes in 2003, will share
his reflections about the history, evolution and development of bioart.
17.00 h. Auditorium Centre d'Art Santa Mònica
Andy
Gracie. (hostprods), Phumox Project
An opportunity to know the work of hostprods and to discuss the issues it concerns: natural intelligence and artificial intelligence, communication systems, emergent behaviours, symbiosis and parasitism. He will also talk about his most recent project, Phumox, an exploration of the interaction between microbes and synthetic and virtual cellular communities.
18.00 h. Auditorium Centre d'Art Santa Mònica
José
Eugenio Marchesi. Scientific breeding
A tribute to and portrait of the service that some animals have given to genetic research: the fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster), the lab mouse (Mus musculus), the toad (Xenopus laevis), the worm(Caenorhabditis elegans) and the zebra fish (Brachridario rerio).
19.30 h. Auditorium Centre d'Art Santa Mònica
Oron
Catts and the participants in the SymbioticA
Tissue Engineering and Art Workshop. Conclusions of the workshop.
The workshop will move from the
Biology faculty to the CASM where a
discussion forum will take place between the participants of the workshop and
the directors. The discussion will be
open to the public.
Andy
Gracie (hostprods): Interspecies Communication
A workshop on the technologically augmented exchange of
information and communication between species. An AI program will facilitate an exploration
into how how new forms of meaning and
representation can be extracted from the
interactions between the natural and the artifitial.
17.00 h. Auditorium Centre d'Art Santa Mònica
Ionat
Zurr and Oron Catts (Tissue Culture & Art Project). DIY DeVictimiser Kit
Mark One (DIY DVK m1)
Workshop performance designed to help the alleviation of feelings of guilt for the dead of some animals by
extending the life of the body until the feeling disolves. Taking the case of
the bullfighting ritual, it will serve as a revision of human relations
with other animals.
19.00 h. Auditorium Centre d'Art Santa Mònica
